The Rookie of the Year race was extremely close, but we officially have a winner.
Barnes finished the Rookie of the Year race with a total of 378 points. This was determined from a global panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters.
Cleveland Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley finished with 363 points. The 15-point difference is the smallest margin since the current voting format began in the 2002-03 season.
Barnes averaged 15.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Mobley averaged 15.0, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, who came in third, averaged 17.4 points, 5.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds after a slow start.
Barnes was the fourth pick of the 2021 NBA Draft, and with winning the Rookie of the Year award, he is the third Raptor in franchise history to do so. Former Raptors guards Damon Stoudamire and Vince Carter won the award in 1996 and 1999 respectively.
After missing the playoffs in 2020-21, the Raptors are back in and taking on the Philadelphia 76ers. And with Barnes leading the way, the Raptors are a playoff team for years to come.
